Daniel Francis Collins was a 20 year old World War II soldier who, as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division suffered gunshot wounds at Anzio and lay in the battlefield for nineteen hours before being rescued. He was the patriarch of the Collins clan with roots in New York and a family that reached from the boroughs of New York City through the middle of Connecticut and up to Springfield and down to Florida. Dan was a member of the Local 218 Steamfitters and Pipefitters union and was seen by is peers as the man on the job who knew how to answer questions and get things done.

In 1948 Dan married Kathleen Ryan of New York, moved to Mayberry Village in East Hartford and ultimately to Manchester where he raised a large family…which is where his life was centered. Dan was an Irishman to the fullest…proud and gregarious…he is the man we remember and honor every time a glass is raised…here at the bar named in his honor…
